First tool is your brain. The ability to think logically based on reality. The importance of this is paramount. With your brain you can examine your feelings, your feelings motivate your actions.

With your brain (now) in charge instead of your emotions you can use logical reason and appear sane and civilized.

How to judge your own state of mind

The most difficult thing is to be able to judge your own state of mind, as in how mentally healthy am I?

I judge my mental health by my emotional level-balance.

First thing to check on is ones sense of humor.

Too little is bad, too much is bad.

If you don’t feel humor/can’t laugh , in my opinion it is a warning sign one might be “mentally ill”, whatever that is.

If you laugh at the wrong thing, “wrong” punchline you may also be judged mentally ill based on that emotional reaction.

IMO This is probably an incorrect judgement of society/psychiatry, they just don’t get the joke from their perspective, that doesn’t make your emotional reaction wrong, they just don’t understand what you see.

Or you could be laughing TOO much, that also gets you judged mentally ill.

Anger

Too much is bad, too little is also probably bad.
Say you find yourself thinking, “That guy needs a punch”. This would indicate one has too much anger on tap.
You have to recognize the feeling of anger you are having. Am I angry? Why am I angry?
With this realization that one is angry , one can ask why, as in what specific reason one is angry. Next , after finding the reason for your anger is this reason a good reason for an act of violence, such as a punch? The answer is no in most cases. The correct answer is to leave the situation, or eliminate what is causing the feeling of anger.

You must remember if you do lose your temper and are physically or verbally violent there will be consequences, if you don’t want the inevitable consequences, don’t do the violence. Do you enjoy your freedom? Remember this is Heaven, it is Assholes and idiots that make it hell.

Conversely having too little anger when being wronged can make one feel powerless in a cumulative snowballing effect, for being too weak might lead to a feeling of depression, or low pride, low self worth… leading to further weakness or excessive sadness.

Sadness

Too much is bad, too little is also probably bad.

Joy

Too much is bad, too little is also probably bad.

Paranoia/Worry

Too much is bad, too little is also probably bad.

The goal is for all emotions to be not too small and not too large. If ones emotions get too large or too small, they can overwhelm ones rational, logical, civilized brain and then one can make mistakes.

Mistakes ARE a part of life however, and a natural human thing to do. Apologise if necessary and move on.

Physical Tools

Camera.

A thing you need is a camera. This will show physical evidence of whatever has happened. The coward is afraid of the camera as it will capture his/her actions. You can take the “enemy” to court with the physical evidence. The “enemy” will pay you in $money$ instead of the satisfaction of physical violence.

As there are assholes and idiots, only the idiots will be photographed. The assholes are smart enough to escape, or not wait around to be photographed.

The asshole, knowing things can be photographed , can switch to a sound or verbal irritant insult.

Sound
Sound is the Achilles heel as it is very difficult to record.
Sound as in words/insult and different audible frequencies.
These will be intended to provoke you, you will feel provoked. You must be the master of your irritation.
Normal everyday sounds can be perceived as provocation. This is paranoia. A person clearing their throat repeatedly, the sound of a police or fire vehicle , a normal occurrence, can be perceived as a personal attack.

Sounds can bother me as I find them too loud. To be cool one can pretend the sound is not loud, but it is loud (to me). An example would be standing next to a street with cars and trucks passing at high speed. This is loud yet everyone pretends while wait for the bus it isn’t disturbing, maybe it isn’t to them, I don’t know.

Conversely in a library where it is quiet, a person talking, rustling a newspaper, or clearing their throat is also loud to me. I can’t help but hear the other persons sound, its loudness invades my brain and overwhelms my thoughts.

To deny the sounds are loud (to me) is to deny reality. I could white knuckle it/clench my teeth for the duration but the solution of earplugs works for me.

Deaf people taught to talk though they can not hear, or forcing someone disabled to fit into the social norm, so they can “look” normal is wrong.

If things get too loud for me, I put earplugs in my ears. It is my way out of a bad situation.


Difficult situation/problem
With your BRAIN once again, you must use the logic of Occam’s razor “Whatever is the most simplest answer is the most likely”.

99.9% of problems are misunderstandings.

A failure to communicate.

If it is a boss man you got to respect his-her power.
Do not read( or perceive) into sounds what is not there.
All sounds are , are different frequency’s of vibration of air molecules. There is no cause to get-feel angry, unless one is trapped in a jail and forced to listen.

Personal . If possible the Asshole will use sound to prevent you from sleep. Sleep deprivation will make your jumpy , irritable and irrational. Just what the asshole wants.
In this extreme case, one must use drugs such as Ativan or alcohol to fall asleep, as sleep is necessary for a sound mind. The amount of sleep is not super-critical just a bit will see you through to the next day.
At this point, a prayer to your God couldn’t hurt either.
